Sanju Samson became the first Indian to score three T20I centuries in the same year.
Srikkanth stated that Abhishek Sharma should open with one of Sai Sudharsan, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, or Yashasvi Jaiswal. He stated that Jitesh Sharma or Samson should be chosen for the wicketkeeper position.
"Sanju Samson was found wanting against the short ball against England. According to me, it's doubtful that he will open. If I were a selector, Abhishek Sharma would be my No. 1 choice. No. 2, I would go for either Vaibhav Sooryavanshi or Sai Sudharsan," said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel, 'Cheeky Cheeka.'
"I would have Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in my 15-member T20 World Cup squad as well. He is playing brilliantly. Sai Sudharsan is the Orange Cap holder. He has been doing very well, and so has Yashasvi Jaiswal. So, one of Sudharsan, Sooryavanshi, or Jaiswal should open with Abhishek. That would be my choice. This is a very competitive world. The choice can be between Samson and Jitesh Sharma as the keeper-batter," he added.
Samson has found a new lease of life opening for the Indian team and, since the 2024 T20 World Cup, has scored 908 runs in 31 matches, with a strike rate of 157.09, with three centuries and three fifties.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, another contender for the opening slot, has 723 runs in 23 T20Is with a century and five fifties at a strike rate of over 164.
Sai Sudharsan starred in the IPL 2025 with 759 runs and has impressed with his consistency and range of shots, impressing one and all.
Meanwhile, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a blockbuster IPL 2025, in which he scored runs with a strike rate of over 200 and hit the fastest century in IPL by an Indian batter, reaching the milestone in just 35 balls.
