Abhishek Sharma scored 28 runs in 21 balls with 3 fours and one six.
India still managed 168/7 in 20 overs thanks to 46 by Shubman Gill and 28 runs by Abhishek Sharma. There were contributions by Shivam Dube (22), Suryakumar Yadav (20), and Axar Patel (21*) as well.
In response, Australia started well with 30 by Mitch Marsh and 25 by Matt Short, but quickly fell away as Indian bowlers starred. Washington Sundar took 3/3, while Axar Patel and Shivam Dube took two wickets each, as Australia was bowled out for 119 runs. Axar Patel won the Player of the Match.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma’s knock came into focus as he had to work for his runs and wasn’t his free-flowing self as Australian bowlers adjusted to his strengths. They bowled bouncers, slower balls, and other variations at Abhishek, not giving him one consistent pace to hit through.
Hence, his 28 runs came off 21 balls with a strike rate of 133.33 with 3 fours and one six before he was dismissed by Adam Zampa.
This led to India skipper Suryakumar Yadav teasing Abhishek Sharma as they made their way to the team bus after the match. In a viral video, Surya is telling someone that Abhishek was like a tiger that had to eat grass, referring to his strike rate.
"Kabhi dekha hai sher ko ghaas khaate hue? (Have you ever seen a lion eating grass?) Aaj sher ghaas khaa rha thaa dheere dheere karke, (Today, the lion was eating grass — slowly, bit by bit)," Surya said with a smile, while Abhishek reacted sheepishly.
