Gill endured one more failure on the tour of Australia today.
Sara Tendulkar, daughter of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, was in attendance during the third India versus Australia T20I at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday (November 2).
Chasing 187 to win, the Men in Blue got over the line in 18.3 overs, with notable contributions from Washington Sundar (49* off 23), Jitesh Sharma (22* off 13), Abhishek Sharma (25 off 16) and skipper Suryakumar Yadav (24 off 11).
While the victory helped India level the series 1-1 with two matches still to be played, vice-captain Shubman Gill’s form remains a cause of concern for the visitors. The right-hander could only score a 12-ball 15 in Hobart as he was dismissed by Nathan Ellis. Before this game, Gill had recorded scores of 10, 9, 24, 37* and 5 in the ongoing Australia tour.
Shubman was trapped in front of the wicket during the third T20I, continuing his poor run in the shortest format. The dismissal occurred on the final delivery of the powerplay.
As Gill challenged the on-field umpire's LBW decision, the cameras caught Sara watching curiously from the stands. However, the review went in vain from India’s perspective as ball-tracker confirmed that the ball would've hit the leg stump.
Prior to his dismissal, Gill hit Ellis for a boundary and the cameras spotted Sara having a laugh in the stands.
Rumors of a relationship between cricketer Shubman Gill and Sara Tendulkar have been around for years, fueled by social media and occasional sightings, but there has been no official confirmation.
Earlier, fiery half-centuries from Tim David and Marcus Stoinis propelled Australia to 186/6 in their stipulated 20 overs.
For the tourists, three wickets were taken by Arshdeep Singh (3/35 in 4 overs), two scalps were picked up by Varun Chakaravarthy (2/33 in 4 overs), and one wicket was claimed by Shivam Dube (1/43 in 3 overs) in their respective bowling spells.
