Tilak’s catch reminded many of Suryakumar Yadav’s iconic catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.
India batter Tilak Varma had an off day with the bat in the second T20I against Australia at MCG, but he stole the show with an acrobatic catch on the boundary line to dismiss Travis Head.
During the fifth over of Australia’s chase, Head attempted to loft a length ball from Varun Chakaravarthy over long-off, but Tilak judged it well, ran to his left and pulled off a sharp catch near the boundary.
Tilak’s catch reminded many of Suryakumar Yadav’s iconic catch to get rid of David Miller in the final of the T20 World Cup last year.
Here’s the video:
Earlier in the match, Tilak Varma bagged a two-ball duck. The southpaw was one of the four victims of Australia’s star pacer Josh Hazlewood in the powerplay.
Hazlewood ran through the Indian batting line-up in the second T20I, returning with the figures of 3/13 in four overs to help Australia bundle out the visitors for 125 in 18.4 overs. Abhishek Sharma was the lone warrior with the bat for India, scoring 68 off 37 balls.
In reply, the hosts overhauled the target in just 13.2 overs to take 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. Skipper Mitchell Marsh was the top scorer with 46 off 26 balls.
India and Australia will now square off in the third T20I in Hobart on Sunday (November 2).
