Yashasvi Jaiswal made his India ODI debut earlier this year against England.
India's three-match ODI series in Australia got off to a terrible start as they were crushed at Perth's Optus Stadium. The Indian team would be concerned about their crushing loss in the rain-affected game.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made their ODI comebacks for the Indian team, although they only scored 8 and 0 in their first ODI since the ICC Champions Trophy in March.
One possible alteration India might consider is bringing in Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is yet to prove his worth for India in white-ball cricket. His place in the Indian ODI squad is taken by an exceptional opening combination of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma.
There may have been some encouraging indicators about an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities in the 50-over format. Jaiswal was seen having a lengthy talk with coach Gautam Gambhir and top selector Ajit Agarkar during an optional net session in Adelaide prior to the second ODI, raising the prospect of a run before the series concludes in Australia.
During the squad announcement, Agarkar specifically mentioned Jaiswal as an alternative to Rohit Sharma. Rohit has been deprived of the ODI captaincy in favor of Shubman Gill, and he has already warned that he will battle for his spot based on his performance.
Jaiswal made his ODI debut against England earlier this year and was expected to play for India in the Champions Trophy as well but was replaced by Shreyas Iyer.
Later in the net session, Jaiswal was reportedly seen practicing both his bowling and batting. Jaiswal is a rarely used part-time spinner, but having someone available to bowl three or four overs in an ODI would provide plenty of options for the Indian team's bottom order.
