AUS v IND 2025: WATCH- Gautam Gambhir discusses Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal with batting coach in animated manner

Shreyas Iyer fell for 11 runs, gloving the ball to keeper off Josh Hazlewood.

The first ODI of the three-match series between Australia and India was played in Perth on October 19, 2025. India was asked to bat first, and their innings was marred with repeated interruptions due to rain and ultimately reduced to 26 overs.

KL Rahul top-scored with 38, and Axar Patel made 31 as India posted 136/9 in 26 overs. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made their India ODI return after more than seven months since the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

In reply, Mitchell Marsh’s 46* and Josh Phillippe’s 36 led the way as Australia won the game by 7 wickets via the DLS method, chasing a 131-run target.

Meanwhile, the focus was also on Shreyas Iyer, who is playing his first ODI series as India's vice-captain. Iyer, a key piece in India's Champions Trophy 2025 victory, was bowled out by Josh Hazlewood on the second ball of the 14th over.

Hazlewood struck the deck hard, and the ball slanted. Iyer was pushed for space when he attempted to glance at it due to the extra bounce. The ball struck the glove, and wicketkeeper Josh Philippe made a great catch.

During the rain break, cameras captured Gautam Gambhir being seen discussing Iyer’s dismissal with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. He was seen signaling how Iyer was cramped up down the leg side to Kotak, who also seemingly agreed with him.
