Former Australian cricketer and now commentator Kerry O’Keeffe disturbed a hornet’s nest when he compared the Indian domestic cricket bowling to railway canteen staff and waiters while discussing Mayank Agarwal’s triple hundred in Ranji Trophy.

Though he apologized, the Indian team, crowd, and former players didn’t take it that well.

Now after Team India routed Australia by 137 runs in MCG Test to go 2-1 up, Indian captain Virat Kohli and Man of the Match Jasprit Bumrah have both credited Indian domestic cricket and Ranji Trophy, for the success of team India.

Our first-class cricket is amazing, which is why we won. Credit must go to first-class set-up in India, which challenges our fast bowlers in India, and that helps them abroad,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

Even MoM Jasprit Bumrah credited the Ranji trophy for his conditioning and ability to bowl long spells, saying, "We train for this because we want to play cricket for longer periods of time. So our training comes into play. Yes, we have been use to bowling lot of overs in Ranji Trophy, so that was actually great grooming for us (fast bowlers) to gradually graduate to Test cricket."

Before Kohli and Bumrah, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri had already replied to Kerry saying, "Mayank's got a message for Kerry. When you do open your canteen, he wants to come and smell the coffee. And he wants to compare it to the ones back home in India. Is the coffee better here in your canteen, or the one back home?"
