AUS v IND 2018-19: 1st Test, Day 2- Australia makes 191/7 as Indian bowlers wrest initiative

R Ashwin picked 3/50 as Travis Head remained not out on 61.

The second day of the first Test between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval started off with India being dismissed for their overnight score of 250. Josh Hazlewood ended up with figures of 3/52, as he picked the last wicket of Shami, caught by Paine.

India had made a big recovery to make 250 thanks to Pujara’s 123 and it was up to their bowlers to peg back the Australians, and that’s what Indian bowlers did.

Ishant Sharma landed a big blow as he sent back Aaron Finch on the third ball of the innings for a duck. Marcus Harris (26) and Usman Khawaja (28) fell to the guile of R Ashwin after adding 45 runs. Ashwin also accounted for Shaun Marsh for 4.

Peter Handscomb (34) hung around with Travis Head before Bumrah dismissed him and Ishant removed skipper Tim Paine. Cummins (10) then added 50 runs for the 7^th wicket, but Bumrah came back to remove him and end the partnership.

Travis Head stayed focused on the other end and remained not out on 61 as Australia ended day 2 on 191/7.

For India, R Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers, removing three left-handers for 50 runs, while Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets each. Mohammad Shami couldn't get his rhythm going and seldom looked threatening.

India’s comeback into the match has set up the third day of the Test nicely, as Australia will want to erase the deficit as much as possible, while India will want to have a sizeable lead at their disposal when they start their second innings and aim to set a stiff target for Australia.
