Young Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has had a remarkable Test debut in Australia after getting an unexpected maiden Test cap on 15 January for the historic fourth and final Test at The Gabba.

However, Sundar went on the tour as a net bowler but numerous injuries to fellow bowlers handed him the debut cap in Test cricket.

Well, the 21-year-old’s Test debut was special as he greatly contributed to India's historic 3-wicket win over Australia at their so-called “fortress” Gabba with both bat and ball.

Apart from taking 4 wickets including Steve Smith with his off-spin, the left-hander also hit his maiden Test fifty (62) as well as stitched a crucial seventh-wicket partnership of 123 runs with Shardul Thakur to become only the third Indian to score a half-century on Test debut in Australia.

As the all-rounder has now returned home after playing an instrumental role in India’s one of the greatest Test victories, his fans and parents are proud of him for his exemplary performance and even the youngster’s father M Sundar said his son is bound to become a legend.

He also rated Sundar’s performance Down Under as “special” and prays to god that the all-rounder gets a long inning in the Indian team given his skill, dedication, and hard work.

Sundar senior exclusively told NDTV: “So proud of Washington, (Ravichandran) Ashwin, T Natarajan, and Team India. Washington is a natural opening batsman, and he made use of the opportunity that he got.”

He added, “This performance is special. Washington will become a legend. He has the skill, dedication, hard work, and discipline. I hope God will give him a long inning in the Indian team.”

Meanwhile, Washington Sundar's mother has revealed that the all-rounder would create a ruckus at home if he was not allowed to go practice.

She added, “He would wake up at 5 am and be early at the ground and leave for school. In the evenings after heavy practice, he would quickly finish his homework. He would want to play cricket even if it rains. He would take his friends and dad. If that was not allowed, he would create a ruckus at home.”

On the other hand, Sundar's sister Shailaja said that she has always been a bigger fan of her brother's batting than his bowling. The cricketer had also started his career as a batsman in domestic cricket.

She added, “We have always enjoyed playing together from childhood. I enjoy Washington's batting more than his bowling. In one game we saw two different styles of his batting.”

Noteworthy, the Tamil Nadu cricketer has so far played only one ODI and Test so far and can add more to his tally after being named in the India squad for the first two Test of the home series against England.
