AUS v IND 2020-21: WATCH - Vaughan and Pietersen take a dig at Paine's "can't wait for you at Gabba" comment

Paine had uttered the words to R Ashwin during the drawn SCG Test.

Australia's most favorite Test ground, who they also used to call their fortress, The Gabba, in Brisbane was conquered by the Indian team in a historic series victory over the hosts.

In the third Test at Sydney, Australian captain Tim Paine was known to be eager to get the Indians to The Gabba, showing overconfidence. He had been caught on stump mic saying "can't wait to get you to the Gabba Ash" to India's R Ashwin, as he and Hanuma Vihari gave it their all to draw the Sydney Test match.

However, things went sour in Brisbane, as despite reducing India to 186/6 in reply to their first innings total of 369, India managed to make 336 runs with Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar making fifties and adding 123 runs for the seventh wicket.

Mohammed Siraj then took five wickets and Shardul picked four to make it seven for him in the match, as Australia managed 294 in the second innings. India set 328 to win, did the needful on day 5, with Shubman Gill making 91 and Pujara spending 211 balls for his 55 runs.

However, it was Rishabh Pant's belligerent 89* that helped India win the match and the series.

Ever since the loss to a second-string India side which had to call up net bowlers in T Natarajan and Washington Sundar after R Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the Brisbane Test, Tim Paine had to face a lot of trolling all over the internet and print media for his comments.

Two of Australia's fiercest rivals from England, former captains Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen took to social media to embarrass the Aussie skipper with a funny edit of his video inviting Ravichandran Ashwin to The Gabba.

Team India completed just their second Test series victory in Australia, both coming against an Australian side led by Tim Paine. Thus, India has become the only Asian side to win more than one Test series down under.

It was a magnificent effort from the Indian team who were led by Ajinkya Rahane in absence of Virat Kohli in the last three Tests and rose from being 0-1 down to win the series 2-1. Tim Paine, on the other hand, has received a lot of backlash from the Australian fans and experts.
