India beat Australia 2-1 in the four-match Test series.
Ajinkya Rahane-led and injury affected Team India fought tooth and nail and it was all due to the five-wicket haul of Mohammed Siraj, the all-round performances from Shardul Thakur (7 wickets and 67) and Washington Sundar (62, 22, 3 wickets), couple with terrific knocks from Shubman Gill (91), Rishabh Pant (89*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (55), that India won their first match at Gabba, a venue where Australia had not lost for past 32 years in Tests.
Pant was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant 89* which helped India chase a target of 328 runs on day five of the Gabba Test.
Indian team faced adversities and injuries to conjure up a brilliant Test series win and were rewarded with them moving to the second spot in the latest ICC Test team rankings.
India is now placed second with 117.65 rating points, behind New Zealand, which is at first place with 118.44 rating points. Australia slipped to no.3 with 113 rating points.
