AUS v IND 2020-21: BCCI announces 5 Cr bonus for Team India after remarkable Test series win

India has shown grit and determination to beat Australia and retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has on Tuesday (January 19) announced a prize of INR 5 Crore as a bonus after Ajinkya Rahane-led Indian Cricket Team ended Australia’s 32-year dominance at The Gabba to win the final Test and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by winning the series 2-1.

Apart from exceptional efforts by Mohammed Siraj, Indian batsmen Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Shubman Gill combined to end Australia's famous stranglehold at Brisbane fortress and completed one of India’s most remarkable and famous Test and series victories on Tuesday.

With a 2-1 Test series win, an injury-ravaged Team India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Tuesday on the Australian soil and BCCI was just in awe for their boys’ outstanding and remarkable performance amid so many obstacles on the tour.

Announcing the prize, the BCCI tweeted on Tuesday: “The BCCI has announced INR 5 Crore as team bonus"- BCCI Secretary Mr @JayShah tweets.”

While the BCCI secretary Mr. Shah tweeted: “The @BCCI has announced INR 5 Crore as team bonus. These are special moments for India Cricket. An outstanding display of character and skill #TeamIndia #AUSvIND #Gabba.”

On the other hand, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also confirmed the same while congratulating the Indian team for the remarkable Test series win in Australia.

Ganguly wrote on Twitter: “Just a remarkable win...To go to Australia and win a test series in this way ..will be remembered in the history of indian cricket forever ..Bcci announces a 5 cr bonus for the team ..The value of this win is beyond any number ..well done to every member of the touring party.”

Noteworthy, Australia had lost a Test match last time in the Brisbane Cricket Ground in November 1988 when the mighty West Indians under Viv Richards thrashed Allan Border's team by 9 wickets.
