Vihari and Ashwin put on 62* runs in 258 balls at SCG to eke out a draw.
However, today, January 11, will go down in history as one of the best days in Indian cricket, as the team batted out 131 overs overall to secure a brilliant draw against a full-fledged Australian attack.
India had suffered a bout of injuries in this Test as well, as Ravindra Jadeja broke his left thumb and Rishabh Pant was hit on his forearm and didn’t keep wickets in the second innings. Hanuma Vihari then hurt his hamstring, limiting his mobility severely, while Ashwin also copped a blow to the ribs.

However, a team without their regular captain and with their star opener in pavilion managed to keep Australia at bay, thanks to a brilliant stoic 77 by Cheteshwar Pujara, a defiant and aggressive 97 by Rishabh Pant, and above all, a brilliant 62-run unbeaten partnership between Hanuma Vihari (23* in 161 balls) and Ashwin (39* in 128 balls).
The duo, which batted over 250 balls was given a heroes reception in the dressing room with everyone hugging them and celebrating this result as if it was a win, and it was nothing short of a win as well.
BCCI shared a video of the celebrations:
