After winning the first two games of the T20I series, the Indian team took the field on Tuesday (December 8) with an aim of securing a 3-0 whitewash. However, their plans were derailed in the first half by a sorry fielding effort at the iconic SCG as Australians piled on a massive total of 186/5.

Dropping catches and fumbling multiple times have been part of a theme that the Indian team have disappointingly followed throughout the white-ball leg of the tour.

It isn't that the usual suspects have squandered opportunities and been found wanting, even the team's best athletes haven't maintained their usual high standards.

The win in the T20Is after the despairing loss in ODIs has kind of masked India's fielding problems, but with multiple global events coming up, the shoddy effort doesn't augur well for the side.

While drop catches can at times take focus away from some of the inconsistency with the ball, it does help if the fielders are able to make count the opportunities presented to them.

And it isn't that this tour has seen a one-off, the Indian team haven't collectively fielded their best for a while at the international level.

Taking note of this, the cricketing fraternity reacted in worry over some of the costly errors.
