Australian left-arm quick Mitchell Starc has been granted leave from the T20I squad for the ongoing series against India on compassionate grounds.

Starc left the home team's camp ahead of Sunday's (December 6) second T20I after taking permission from coach Justin Langer upon learning of an unspecified illness within his family.

"We will give Mitch all the time he needs and welcome him back into the squad with open arms whenever he feels the time is right for him and his family," Langer was quoted as saying by AFP

Starc's withdrawal is the latest blow to the T20I team already missing the services of injured David Warner, Ashton Agar and also fast bowler Pat Cummins, who has been rested.

Opening batsmen D'Arcy Short and spinners Mitch Swepson, Nathan Lyon were added to the squad.

The Indians are 1-0 up in the three-match series after winning the tightly contested first T20I in Canberra by 11 runs on Friday (December 4).
