A harmless joke about David Warner’s injury has made Indian white-ball vice-captain on Australia tour, KL Rahul, subject of intense criticism amongst the Twitterverse.

Warner suffered a groin injury during the second ODI between India and Australia in Sydney on November 29 and has been ruled out of the remaining white-ball matches to let him recover for the upcoming four-match Test series.

D'Arcy Short has been named as Warner's replacement for the upcoming T20I series after his groin injury.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul gave his views on Warner’s injury and absence during the post-match press conference, as India lost by 51 runs. The wicket-keeper batsman said on a lighter note that it will be good for Team India if Warner is out for a long time.

However, his harmless comment found no takers on social media, and people got offended for the lack of empathy in what was an obvious sarcastic statement from Rahul. Some also pointed out the lack of sportsman spirit in Rahul's comments for Warner.
