India captain Virat Kohli has opened up about the decision to take paternity leave. Kohli won't be available for the last three Test matches against Australia in the four-match Test series.

Virat will stay with his wife Anushka Sharma, who is due to give birth in January next year. Ahead of the ODI series against Australia, the India skipper revealed he took the decision even before the selection meeting.

“The decision was made before we had the selection meeting. I had told the selectors that I would fly back after the first Test as we have a quarantine period both ways,” said Kohli.

“I wanted to be back home in time to be with my wife [Anushka Sharma] for the birth of our first child. It is a special and beautiful moment in my life,” he added.

Ex-Australia captain Steve Waugh was surprised with the decision. The Border-Gavaskar trophy is one of the important encounters and a player of such big stature missing out on the clash is big news.
