Kishan suffered a back sprain while ducking awkwardly to evade a sharp bouncer from pacer Navdeep Saini.
Ishan Kishan's lower-back injury is not serious, and the wicketkeeper-batter is expected to be fine ahead of the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. The injury scare occurred during India's training session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday (September 11).
Kishan suffered a back sprain while ducking awkwardly to evade a sharp bouncer from pacer Navdeep Saini, who was operating as a net bowler. The southpaw felt immediate discomfort, abandoned his batting session, and stayed under the observation of India's team physio, Kamlesh Jain.
However, Saini later checked on Kishan post-practice and the latter confirmed he was doing fine, downplaying any long-term concerns.
“Me and Ishan have played together for quite a while. We know each other very well. I know his weaknesses, so I thought of exploiting it with a short ball. He couldn’t play it. I walked up to him later and asked him how he is doing. He said he is doing fine, so there is nothing to worry about,” Saini said, as quoted by The Indian Express.
This minor setback comes right after Ishan Kishan's exceptional performance in the domestic Duleep Trophy final at Chepauk, where he produced scores of 270 and 80, leading East Zone to the title win by beating South Zone on the basis of first-innings lead.
The three-match T20I series against Afghanistan is slated to begin on September 13 in Delhi, serving as India's final preparatory assignment before the upcoming Asian Games.
