The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday (August 11) confirmed that opener KL Rahul has completely recovered from his health issues and has gained the required fitness. They also announced that the batter has been added to India's squad for the three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe and will captain the side.

Shikhar Dhawan, who was originally named as captain for the short tour, will now serve as deputy to KL Rahul.

KL Rahul has been out of action since the IPL 2022 ended, as he suffered from a sports hernia and was ruled out on the eve of the home T20I series against South Africa, where he was supposed to captain India.

BCCI media release stated, “The BCCI Medical Team has assessed KL Rahul and cleared him to play in the upcoming three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has appointed him the captain of the side and named Shikhar Dhawan as his deputy.”
