IPL 2017: Top Five Batsmen With The Most Fours

Gambhir, Kohli, Uthappa, Dhawan and Raina feature in this elusive list.

Batsmen hitting boundaries is one of the most constant sights in the IPL. But even then when a batsman smacks a delightful boundary off a bowler in a tense situation, it pleases the viewer to no end.

In its nine seasons, the IPL has had countless batsmen who have dominated oppositions purely because of their ability to hit consistent boundaries. Here, we look at the top five batsmen with the most four.

5. 341 Fours - Robin Uthappa (Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Pune Warriors, Royal Challengers Bangalore):

It took Robin Uthappa some time to settle in the IPL but ever since he was made the opener of the Kolkata Knight Riders, he has been truly magnificent. Playing with soft hands and with great control, Uthappa has struck some truly lovely boundaries in the past few seasons. He plays on the up, pulls, drives, cuts and flicks with great effect to get his fours. In 135 IPL matches, Uthappa has already smacked 341 fours and looks good for many more to come.

4. 348 Fours - Shikhar Dhawan (Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Delhi, Delhi Daredevils):

Although he hasn't been in great touch the last couple of seasons. Shikhar Dhawan has still been a very successful batsman in the league. The left-handed opener is very efficient in cracking boundaries through the off-side and with punches down the ground. He is a good timer of the ball and beautiful to watch when in flow. In 113 IPL matches, Dhawan has struck an impressive 348 fours.

3.  359 Fours - Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore):

Over the past three-four seasons, Virat Kohli has completely redefined his batting and has gone on to be the most productive performer the IPL has seen. Relying more on shots along the ground rather than in the air, Virat scores his runs mostly through boundaries and keeps piling on the pressure on the bowlers. In the nine seasons thus far, Kohli has collected a massive 359 fours in 139 matches.

2. 360 Fours - Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Lions):

Suresh Raina has been among the leading run-scorers of the tournament for a very long time. The left-handed batsman has crunched plenty of boundaries through the off and on side and is a real dominant batsman. He is brilliant against the spinners and knows how to accelerate at just the right time. In 147 IPL matches, Raina has struck an incredible 360 boundaries.

1. 422 Fours - Gautam Gambhir (Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils):

He has been one of the underrated performers in the IPL and yet he is one of the leading run-scorers in the tournament. Gautam Gambhir, apart from being captain fantastic for the Kolkata Knight Riders, has also been regularly plundering runs across seasons. The left-handed batsman is gritty, leads from the front and has all the shots in the book to dominate bowlers and crack them for boundaries. In 132 IPL matches, Gambhir has struck a whopping 422 fours - no one else has even crossed the 400 mark in IPL yet.
