Australia face a must-win clash against England in the third ODI on Tuesday after losing the first two ODIs in the five-match series. Another loss would see Australia lose the ODI series. England have come back strongly after suffering a shock defeat to Scotland to go 2-0 up in the ODI series. England have been the better team in this bilateral series. They have posted two wins out of two and look favorites to win the series.

Best economical pick – Before the second ODI, Jason Roy had not passed 50 since he hit 180 against Australia in January. Initially taking a back seat as Jonny Bairstow struck 42 from 24 balls, Roy accumulated either side of two rain delays. While rain can often distract a set batsman, Roy only grew more aggressive, striking Andrew Tye for a towering six shortly after the game resumed. Roy manipulated the field, running quick singles, and eventually bringing up his fifth one-day century.

Top captains & vice captains – Considering that the experienced MS Dhoni has been a shadow of his former self in recent times, Jos Buttler possesses the indisputable reputation of being the best finisher in the current limited-overs circuit. Australia struck wickets in the death overs and appeared to limit the damage caused, But Buttler cracked a brilliant 91 to steer the team to a match-winning total in the second ODI.The most experienced batsman in Australia’s squad Shaun Marsh cracked a brilliant 131 in the loss in second ODI. His knock kept Australia in the hunt for a chase of 343 before he was eight batsman out. Australia would take heart from Marsh’s performance and hopefully, they can produce a team effort to down England in the third ODI and make a comeback in the series.

Smart pick – In the first two ODIs, Moeen Ali broke the back of the Australian batting line-up with his off-spin bowling and pretty much decided the games with his magical spells. His accuracy, excellent lengths and just the right amount of turn was the Australians’ undoing in those games and the visitors can’t afford a similar horror show against him in the third ODI too.

Cautious Pick – Australia without their key players David Warner and Steve Smith with the bat also miss the likes of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in the bowling department. In their absence, the responsibility of the bowling department is on 27-year-old Kane Richardson who has played just 19 ODIs. He could pick only 3 wickets in the first 2 ODIs so far and it is expected that the selectors will look at other available options.

My XI – Jos Buttler (Captain), Shaun Marsh (Vice-Captain), Jason Roy, Moeen Ali, Glenn Maxwell, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Andrew Tye, Ashton Agar, Travis Head, Alex Hales
