England would be looking to maintain their position atop the International Cricket Council ODI Team rankings as they prepare to take on Scotland at Edinburgh on Sunday before hosting a high-profile five-ODI series against World champions Australia from June 13. Scotland recorded their first ODI win over a Test nation as they beat Zimbabwe last June and drew with the same opponents in March's Qualifier only to be denied a place at next year's World Cup after an agonizing rain-affected defeat to West Indies by in their final game. The Scots also beat Afghanistan at the Qualifier, while there was a win against Sri Lanka in a match not classified as an official ODI three weeks prior to the success against Zimbabwe in Edinburgh.

Best economical pick – A big role in England's resurgence has been played by recalled spinner Adil Rashid. Walking on the new English blueprint of taking on the opposition, Rashid has turned into one of the most attacking wrist-spinners in the world. He is not afraid to show his intents of luring the batsmen and neither does he shy away from deception via wrong-'uns.

Top captains & vice captains – Regularly touted as England's best test bat, Joe Root has often been ignored as a limited overs force, and that has started to get to him. Doing well in ODIs for England consistently will be on Root's check-list and a strong start to this summer could mean that he will finally be in the reckoning for England's premium white ball players. One of the most improved batsmen in recent times,Jonny Bairstow a regular in the longer format of the game and with Jos Buttler as the specialist keeper in white ball cricket, Bairstow had to earn his spot as a specialist batsman, which he has ably done with a prolific 2017/18 season which culminated with a record-smashing hundred against New Zealand.

Smart pick – Calum MacLeod has scored 1582 runs at an average of 35.95, including six hundreds and five fifties in his 49-innings career. He started his career as a medium-pace bowler and batted at No. 9 and No. 10 in his initial matches. After proving his credentials as a batsman, he moved up the order. At No. 3, he has an excellent record.

Cautious Pick – Apart from a match-winning 56 against KKR, Sam Billings has had an ordinary IPL this year. Billings scrapped to a mere 108 runs in 10 matches at a disappointing average of 13.50. After IPL he played the charity match against West Indies and failed in that game too.

My XI – Joe Root (Captain), Jonny Bairstow (Vice-Captain), Calum MacLeod, Adil Rashid, Eoin Morgan, Liam Plunkett,Safyaan Sharif, Michael Leask, Dylan Budge, Michael Jones, Tom Curran
