Sri Lanka will be touring the Caribbean Islands for the first time in ten years for a Test series. The Jason Holder led West Indies will be taking on the Lankans starting. This is a contest between the visiting team ranked at No.6 and the hosts who are at No.9. Though there is quite some difference in terms of rankings they are pretty much on the same page when it comes to performance i.e. they have underperformed. Sri Lanka did defeat Pakistan in a Test series on the tour of UAE but have been very inconsistent of late and lack stability. West Indies, on the other hand, have had their share of troubles and Captain Holder will want them to bounce back with a win in the home series.

Best economical pick – Dilruwan Perera made his debut in whites in 2014 against Pakistan at Sharjah and since then has been a vital player to the fortunes of his team. He is the fastest bowler to reach the milestone of 100 wickets in red-ball cricket for Sri Lanka.  He is also a handy batsman with six half-centuries under his belt. He played a crucial role in his team’s historic series win against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

Top captains & vice captains – Kraigg Brathwaite is one of the most talented young players in the present West Indian team. He made his Test debut at the age of just 19 and has established himself as a reliable opening batsman for the team over the years. West Indies will rely heavily on him to give a solid start at the top. Dinesh Chandimal has shown immense potential while playing for the team. Playing his first test series in the Caribbean, he will have an added responsibility of captaining the team. As a batsman, he has been impressive and scored more than 1000 runs in the last calendar year. Overall, he has 3413 runs with an average of 43.76 in 46 tests that include 10 centuries.

Smart pick – Rangana Herath has been a consistent performer for the Sri Lankan team over the years. He has assumed the mantle of Sri Lanka's strike bowler post the Muralitharan's retirement. Having appeared in 89 Tests, he is the most experienced player in the current Sri Lankan squad. He has scalped 415 wickets at an impressive average of 28.18.

Cautious Pick – Sri Lankan batsman Dhananjaya de Silva rejoined teammates after family turmoil. The Lankans had initially named a 17-man squad which included de Silva and. The 26-year old stayed back following a personal turmoil that did not permit him to travel. The team management will take a call whether to play him or not in the first test.

My XI – Kraig Brathwaite (Captain), Dinesh Chandimal (Vice-Captain), Rangana Herath, Dilruwan Perera, Jason Holder, Roshen Silva, Kemar Roach, Devendra Bishoo, Niroshan Dickwella, Roston Chase, Suranga Lakmal
