New Zealand would look to complete a 2-0 series sweep when they take on England in the second and final Test at Christchurch on Friday. New Zealand have outclassed England in the first Test despite rain wreaking havoc most of the days during the match. England have their backs against the wall and would look to finish off the tour with a win to level the series. New Zealand lost the ODI series 3-2 to England despite in a position to win the series before the fifth ODI. Hence, New Zealand would have to guard against complacency when they take on England in the second Test as Joe Root and his men would come hard at the Kiwis. New Zealand are playing at home and they would start favorite thanks to their brilliant show in the first Test. England would come hard at the Kiwis, but their recent record away does not inspire much confidence.

Best economical pick & Smart pick – New Zealand new-ball pair of Tim Southee and Trent Boult did all the damage in the first innings of the first Test, bowling unchanged for 20.4 overs to bowl out England for just 58. They came back to take another 4 wickets in the second innings. Neil Wagner also took three wickets in the second innings to join the party. New Zealand would come hard at England again in the second Test to sweep the series.

Top captains & vice captains – Kane Williamson is one of the best batsmen to have played for New Zealand at least in the Test format. The right-handed batsman has been doing a great job the Kiwis at the highest for quite some time now. In the first test, he brought up yet another Test century and put his team in a commanding position in the game against England. This century was special as Williamson broke the record held by Blackcaps legend Martin Crowe who had 17 Test centuries; the most by any batsman from the country. Henry Nicholls batted beautifully even as few wickets fell around him. He notched up his well-deserved century and then launched an assault on England bowlers who were duly waiting for declaration it seemed. Nicholls remained unbeaten on 145 with 18 fours to his name.

Cautious Pick – England line-up surrendered for a low 58 in the first innings in just 20.4 overs. They fared bit better in the second innings but they could not avoid an innings defeat. And their best test batsman Alastair Cook scored just 7 runs in the first test. Alastair Cook’s match aggregate of seven runs in the first test is his joint lowest in his previous 48 Tests. Cook aggregated seven runs in the 2015 Durban Test against South Africa with 0 and 7 respectively. He scored 5 and 2 in this Auckland Test.

My XI – Kane Williamson (Captain), Henry Nicholls (Vice-Captain), Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Jack Leach, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, BJ Watling, Jeet Raval, James Vince, James Anderson
