Wasim Akram debuted for Pakistan in 1984

Wasim Akram, the greatest left-arm pacer and one of the greatest bowler of all time was born on 3 June 1966 at Lahore in Pakistan. He made both his Test and ODI debut against New Zealand in 1985 and 1984 respectively and retired from all formats of the game at the age of 38 after the 2003 World Cup. In a 17 year long career, he made and broke several records and is regarded as one of Pakistan's greatest cricketers of all time.

- Most Test wickets for Pakistan (414).

- Most Test wickets by any left-arm pacer.

- Highest individual Test score by a number 8 batsman (257* vs ZIM at Sheikhupura in 1995).

- Most sixes in an innings (12 vs ZIM at Shiekhupura, 1995).

- 17 Man of the Match awards in Test cricket, the most for a fast bowler.

- 2 Test hat-tricks and one of the four bowlers to take more than 1 Test hat-trick.
Hugh Trumble (Aus), Jimmy Matthews (Aus- both hat-tricks in the same Test) and Stuart Broad (Eng) are other three bowlers to take 2 Test hat-tricks.

- Most ODI wickets for Pakistan (502)

- Second most wickets in ODI history after Muttiah Muralitharan (534)

- First bowler to take 500 ODI wickets

- Most wickets by any fast bowler in ODI history.

- 2 ODI hat- tricks, the joint-most by a Pakistani bowler. Saqlain Mushtaq also took 2 ODI hat -tricks.

- 55 wickets in ICC Cricket World Cups - the most by any Pakistani bowler and overall third most after Glenn McGrath (71) and Muttiah Muralitharan (68).

- Man of the finals in the 1992 Benson and Hedges World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

- 22 Man of the Match awards, the most for a bowler in ODI history.
