David Warner and Steve Smith who were banned from playing cricket due to the ball-tampering saga in South Africa made a superb comeback last year.
Smith was at his best in last year’s five-Test series against England as Australia regained the Ashes with the series ending in a tie. The swashbuckling opener David Warner, on the other hand, was the leading run-scorer of the Pakistan series, including a triple hundred and also scored runs against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
Thus, in the end, the 33-year-old left-hand batsman bagged the Allan Border Medal with 194 votes, just one more than right-hander Steve Smith with right-arm pacer Pat Cummins coming in the third place with 185 votes.
The opening batsman got emotional while giving the speech after receiving the medal but controlled himself and delivered the speech with teary eyes.
