Former India captain MS Dhoni, who has not played a single match for India since July 2019, has been removed from BCCI's list of centrally contracted players for the period October 2019-September 2020.

Captain Virat Kohli, limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma, and star pacer Jasprit Bumrah were retained in the highest A+ bracket of ₹7 crores. Surprisingly, Hardik Pandya was named in the category B.

This news about Dhoni left fans shocked as it only hints that the wicket-keeper batsman may not return to the team altogether. Some have already believed the legendary ODI cricketer has hanged his boots and will not return to the side. Dhoni hasn't announced anything about his future yet, and the India head coach Ravi Shastri had said his performance in IPL can play a role in his return to the T20I side.

Twitterati lashed out at BCCI for axing Dhoni from the contract. They feel the veteran should have been there despite not being a regular feature.
