Cricketers are taking safety very seriously after being some unfortunate incidents on the field. A couple of days back, fans remembered the Australia batsman late Phil Hughes on his fifth death anniversary. He had passed away in 2014 after being hit on the head during a domestic match.

Not only the batsman, but even bowlers and umpires also need to look after their safety. New Zealand cricketer Andrew Ellis was hit on the head by a shot from Jeet Raval last year.

The bowler didn't ignore the incident and took safety measures to avoid similar injuries in the future. He was lucky to survive that incident as the ball had sailed for a six after hitting his head which shows the intensity of the shot.

Ellis wore a helmet during the match between Canterbury and Northern Districts in a Ford Trophy match on Wednesday.

The Kiwi cricketer had left a message after the incident. "For guys like me who tend to bowl at the death and try to bowl yorkers, it’s probably a prudent move. It’s better to try and be a little innovative here, and be the world leader around this issue," he said.

It was Warren Barnes who first used bowling helmet in 2017.
