Pakistan cricket was shaken to the core when Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were found guilty for their involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal.

The trio was banned for a minimum of five years in early 2011 by the ICC’s anti-corruption tribunal. All three have now returned to playing cricket after serving their bans. However, Amir is the only one who has represented the nation after completing his time away from the game.

Nearly a decade after the infamous spot-fixing saga, former speedster Shoaib Akhtar has opened up about that dreadful phase in Pakistan cricket.

Speaking on a talk show, the Rawalpindi Express said he was playing against the opposition as well as his own teammates since he was surrounded by the match-fixers.

"I was always of the belief that I can never cheat Pakistan, no match-fixing. I was surrounded by match-fixers. I was playing against 22 people - 11 theirs and 10 ours. Who knows who was the match-fixer. There was so much match fixing. (Mohammad) Asif told me which all matches they had fixed and how they did it," Shoaib said on the show 'Rewind With Samina Peerzada'.

He also recalled how he reacted after hearing the fixing news with Amir and Asif’s involvement.

"I tried to make Amir and Asif understand. What a waste of talent. When I heard about this, I was so upset that I punched the wall. Pakistan's two top bowlers, smart, intelligent and the two perfect fast bowlers were wasted. They sold themselves for a little money," the ex-pacer added.
