Born on October 16, 1975, former South Africa player Jacques Kallis is celebrating his 44th birthday today.

Kallis, regarded among the greatest ever cricketers for his exploits as a legendary batting all-rounder, played a key role in making Proteas a force to reckon with post return to international arena in 1991 at the end of the apartheid era.

Kallis made his debut at the highest level in 1995. He scored 13,289 runs in 166 Tests with 45 hundreds at an average of 55.37 and took 292 wickets, including 5 five-wicket hauls, as an able fourth seamer.

In the 328 ODIs Kallis played, he made 11,579 runs with 17 hundreds at an average of 44.39, apart from taking 273 wickets, including the best of 5/30.

The great batsman also proved his mettle in T20 cricket, especially while he was playing in the Indian Premier League and Big Bash League in Australia. Kallis is currently involved with a few teams in a coach's capacity. And deserves all the rich praise that he continues to receive for his contribution to the game.

As the celebrated all-rounder entered the 45th season of his life, wishes poured in for him from the cricketing fraternity.
