Prior to the second T20I versus South Africa in Mohali on Wednesday (September 18), former batsman turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar at the toss reminded India skipper Virat Kohli of that legendary run-chase that he pulled off in a crunch game at the same venue against Australia in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

"You have played one of your greatest innings here if I remember against Australia here, remember that fondly," Manjrekar had said.

Later, having taken his team home via yet another superb innings in a run-chase, Kohli made it a point to thank Manjrekar for motivating him to go that extra mile on the day by revitalising those memories.

"You (Sanjay Manjrekar) reminded me of the best game of my T20 career. I got a bit of motivation from that," said Kohli at the post-match presentation ceremony. "When you play like that and win a game for your team, it is always a good feeling."

"That night (2016 game vs AUS) was a revelation of how fit you can be on a cricket field. The pitch was very good and an outstanding effort from the bowlers to pull things back," he added.

Responding to which, Manjrekar, when he saw a published report of the same conversation over Twitter, quoted: "It was indeed one of his best T20 innings. Will never forget that night when Virat and Dhoni ran like men possessed to win India that WT20 game at Mohali."

To further stress just how special that game in the T20 World Cup from three years back still is to Kohli; he just recently posted an image celebrating the memorable win in an emotionally overwhelming manner.
