West Indies’ swashbuckling all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been named as the new captain of Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) for the impending 2019 edition of the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

On Monday, 2nd September, the TKR confirmed their skipper Dwayne Bravo injured his finger during a practice session and the all-rounder could miss a significant part of the CPL 2019, which paved the way for Pollard to lead his home franchise in the T20 event.

Pollard was picked in the 2019 Player Draft as TKR's Marquee Player and it will be his maiden appearance as Trinbago player in the CPL having represented Barbados Tridents and St. Lucia Stars in the past editions of the tournament.

Venky Mysore, Director of TKR said of Pollard, “It’s a very unfortunate injury and Dwayne Bravo will be greatly missed. However, we are fortunate to have someone of the calibre of Kieron Pollard to take over the reins from Bravo. His leadership abilities are well proven and, like Bravo, will bring a very aggressive style as captain in TKR’s quest for a third championship in a row.”

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old was delighted to be part of the “special team”, that is something he was waiting for long and is looking forward to giving his best for the franchise in the tournament.

Pollard said on assuming the role, “I am standing in the shoes of the entertainer, Dwayne Bravo. I have been waiting for a long time to be made a part of this special team and I am happy to finally be here. This year, a couple of new guys like me have been given the opportunity to be a part of this great franchise. We are looking forward to putting in our best and lifting the title once again in 2019.”

Noteworthy, the three-time CPL champions will start their campaign with a home game against St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots on Wednesday 4 September – which will also be the 2019 season-opening match.
