Former India opener and national selector VB Chandrasekhar took his last breath at the age of 57 in Chennai on Thursday (August 15).

Chandrasekhar, who represented the country in 7 ODIs between 1988 and 1990, reported to have committed suicide after suffering losses in his cricket-related businesses. He is now survived by his wife and two daughters.

Chandrasekhar’s sojourn in international cricket might not be a big one but he was a prolific batsman at the domestic level. He amassed 4999 runs in 81 first-class games at an impressive average of 43.09 with the highest score of 237 not out.

After his playing days, Chandrasekhar served as the South Zone representative in the national selection panel from 2004 to 2006. He was also actively involved with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the capacity of a cricket manager.

As soon as the heart-wrenching news broke out, former and current Indian cricketers offered their condolences to VB Chandrasekhar’s family.
