Not so long ago, the England cricket team lifted the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 at Lord’s. This week, an English team lost a different World Cup Final to India. The Indian team beat England by 36 runs to win the inaugural Physical Disability World Series T20.

Former Mumbai coach Sulakshan Kulkarni coached the Indian Physical Disability Team in England. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had given recognition to the team but had not provided any financial help.

An Indian team won the inaugural T20 World Cup of sorts. Rings a bell?

Coming to the Final which was played at Blackfinch in England, India posted 180/7 in their 20 overs with the help of some crucial scores from RG Sante (53 runs off 34 balls), KD Phanase (36 runs), Vikrant Keni (29 runs) and S Mahendran (33 runs).

The bowlers complemented the batsmen by restricting the English batsmen to 144/9. England kept losing wickets regularly and were never in the chase. Phanase and S Goyal took 2 wickets each as India won the match by 36 runs.

BCCI’s official Twitter handle posted a picture of the team behind the ‘Winners’ banner!
