Amid the ongoing Global T20 Canada League, former Australia batsman Dean Jones decided to pick his dream team for the shortest format of the game.

Some of Jones’ picks might look controversial for the Twenty20 format, but the 58-year-old backed his selection with solid reasons.

Jones, who has represented Australia in 52 Tests and 164 ODIs, opted to go with his countryman Matthew Hayden and Caribbean batting giant Gordon Greenidge as his openers. For the crucial No. 3 position, he preferred West Indian batting legend Sir Vivian Richards.

Dean Jones picked another Caribbean batting maestro Brian Lara to bat at No. 4 while he went with the former Black Caps captain Martin Crowe for the No. 5 slot. The 48-year-old also termed Kallis as the greatest all-rounder by a long distance.

Jones chose England’s legendary Ian Botham as a premier all-rounder in the side whereas India’s MS Dhoni was his pick as a wicketkeeper batsman.

While picking the bowlers, Jones preferred Shane Warne as the lone spinner in his side. He named Wasim Akram, Curtly Ambrose and Joel Garner as the first bowling options in his dream T20 XI.

Dean Jones’ dream T20 XI:

Matthew Hayden, Gordon Greenidge, Sir Vivian Richards, Brian Lara, Martin Crowe, Ian Botham, MS Dhoni, Shane Warne, Wasim Akram, Curtly Ambrose, Joel Garner.
