Sanjay Manjrekar trolled for restarting the No. 4 debate ahead of India’s tour to West Indies

Manjrekar feels India needs a batsman similar to Virat Kohli at No. 4 and 5 to overcome this middle-order crisis.

Team India’s No. 4 conundrum in the 50-over format has been a topic of discussion for some time now. There were a lot of changes made to the crucial batting slot over the past couple of years, and yet the middle-order flattered to deceive during the recently held ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.

With the Men in Blue set to tour West Indies earlier next month, former India batsman-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar reopened the debate regarding the crucial No. 4 and 5 positions.

As per Manjrekar, India needs a batsman similar to skipper Virat Kohli at No. 4 and 5 to overcome this middle-order crisis.

“India needs a no 4 & 5 who is from the Virat mould of batting. One who can score at a strike rate of 80/90 even when building an innings, taking zero risks by putting balls in the gaps & running the hard singles & twos,” he tweeted on the eve of India’s team selection for the Caribbean tour.

Like many other occasions, Manjrekar’s suggestion didn’t go down too well with the Twitterati as he was brutally trolled in the comment section.

While one user reminded Manjrekar of his 'bits and pieces' comment that he made for Ravindra Jadeja during the World Cup, some sarcastically told him to take up the role of No. 4 batter.
