Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir's commented over Virat Kohli's captaincy ahead of the semi-final match against New Zealand and came down hard on the right-hander. Gambhir admitted that he admires Virat for his batting and rated him among the best four in the world, but added that he is nothing as a captain.

Gambhir feels the presence of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni has helped the 30-year-old. He went on to judge his leadership on the basis of Indian Premier League. Virat hasn't been able to win an IPL trophy despite leading Royal Challengers Bangalore for a long time.

The ex-Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gambhir's words came as a surprise especially after Kohli's terrific outing in the World Cup 2019 even as a captain.

Sitting in a newsroom with other ex-India cricketers, Gambhir said, "Virat Kohli is a good captain for India only because he has MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma behind him. If you are talking about Kohli the captain, he would have won RCB an IPL title since he has taken over the captaincy there. Most of the times his team RCB has finished on number 8.

"Virat as a batsman is in top four, but as a captain, he is way below Dhoni and Rohit. There is no one to give advice when Kohli leads RCB."
