CWC 2019: WATCH - Virat Kohli "A modern day Jesus", says Graeme Swann

Graeme Swann called Kohli as his favorite after he walked off the field, feeling that he nicked the ball.

Virat Kohli | GettyThe former English spinner Graeme Swann lauded Virat Kohli with words of praise. He termed Virat Kohli as the "modern day Jesus" after he displayed the right spirit on the field. Swann was impressed with Virat Kohli walking off the field after he felt he got a nick against Pakistan.

Swann lashed out the cricketers who don’t walk even after knowing they edged, as he believes this is equal to cheating as they try to pretend something else which is unacceptable.

In a recent incident when Kiwis skipper Kane Williamson refused to walk even after edging the ball, he went on to score a match-winning century.

But it was completely different in the case of Virat Kohli, He was batting at a score of 77 against arch rivals Pakistan on Sunday (June 16), and when he appeared to be heading towards another brilliant century, he lashed wildly at a bouncer from Amir in 48th over and all the Pakistani fielders went up in appeal.

The umpire didn’t seem to be much concerned with the appeal but Kohli walked away as he was sure that he nicked the ball, but the replays suggested a different story.

Graeme Swann believes it was pure class and honesty from Kohli, who thought that he nicked it and walked off. Swann called Kohli as his favorite person at that moment.

"I’ve always hated non-walkers. I’ve had an argument with every batsman in the game. If you nick it and you stand there, you know you’ve nicked it. And you know you’re out and if you use the excuse ‘oh I’m letting the umpire decide whether I have or not’, you’re still cheating," said Graeme Swann.

“You’re cheating yourself more than anything. Virat walked off and it turned out he didn’t even nick it. So he’s that honest. He’s given himself out when he’s even not. Honestly, he is a modern day Jesus,” he added.
