India's in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan received a blow on his left thumb during the match against Australia that ruled him out of the World Cup on Wednesday (June 19).

After picking up the injury, he was ruled out of the next 3-4 games and was scheduled to undergo tests in the next 10-12 days. However, reports suggested that his fractured thumb would take more time to heal than expected. Therefore, he was replaced by Rishabh Pant in India's World Cup squad.

After the unfortunate news, he posted a video on Twitter thanking his fans.

Shikhar Dhawan received wishes from the Indian cricket fraternity, as well as his opening partner Rohit Sharma who wished him a speedy recovery. On Thursday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted to Dhawan saying, "Dear @SDhawan25, no doubt the pitch will miss you but I hope you recover at the earliest so that you can once again be back on the field and contribute to more wins for the nation."

The loss of Shikhar Dhawan will be a big one and the Indian team will have to deal with it and move forward in the tournament.
