Mumbai Indians (MI) lifted the IPL trophy for the fourth time on Sunday (12 May). MI beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a closely contested Final by one run. In the second innings, CSK skipper was controversially adjudged run-out at the non-striker’s end.
In the 13th over, Shane Watson clipped a ball to short fine leg and the batsmen ran a single. The fielder Lasith Malinga threw the ball to the non-striker’s end where there was no chance of a run-out. Trying to seize the opportunity, the batsmen ran the second run.
Ishan Kishan picked up the ball and got a direct hit at the non-striker’s end. When the stumps lit up, Dhoni’s bat was on the crease and not behind it. It was a touch-and-go situation and the third umpire took a long time to give him out as it was a critical wicket.
After the decision, all the Dhoni fans had an opinion that he was wrongly given out. To which, New Zealand cricketer James Neesham had tweeted, “I love how passionate some fans are about our sport. I have huge respect for MS but how anyone could see the below photo and say it's not out truly astounds me.”
He received a lot of flak and ‘dumb comments’ on this tweet from CSK and Dhoni fans. A lot of them repeatedly told him how he was wrong and not appropriate to comment on the decision.
He was frustrated with the comments and then deleted the tweet. Soon after, he posted another tweet saying, “I’ve deleted my tweet about MS Dhoni’s runout, not because I’ve changed my mind, but because: 1. I’m sick of seeing the same dumb comments in my feed 200 times a day. 2. I just don’t actually care. Please don’t bother tweeting me about it again. Have a good day everyone.”
