R Ashwin adds one more rumor to the 1990s cricket, "Sanath Jayasuriya had metal in his bat"

There were rumors among the Indian 90s kid that Ricky Ponting has spring in his bat.

A popular rumor of 1990s was that there was spring in Ricky Ponting's bat

The Internet is getting nostalgic with the childhood memories of nineties kids. For cricket fans, one memory which will never fade away is from World Cup 2003. It's hard for the 90 kids to forget the World Cup 2003 final which was played between India and Australia.

Australia team had thrashed Indian bowler all around the park. They scored 359/2 and it was Ricky Ponting who top scored with unbeaten 140.

There were rumors among the Indian fans that Ponting had spring in his bat and that's why he smashed eight sixes and four fours.

It was a heartbreaking game for the Indian fans back then. After a brilliant outing in the tournament, they faced a humiliating defeat by 125 runs. To take out their frustration, they labeled Ponting as a cheater. It may sound funny now, not in 2003.

Even Indian spinner R Ashwin was part of it and has the memory afresh. Apart from Ponting, Ashwin added that Sanath Jayasuriya, the explosive batsman of Sri Lanka also used to cheat.

He wrote, "So did Jayasuriya had steel in his bat and his bat was going to be tested. #90sKidsRumours."
