Legendary South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis and his long-time girlfriend Charlene Engels have taken their relationship to a different level. The lovebirds tied the knot on Sunday (January 13).
Despite a wildfire cutting a swathe through the Overberg in the Western Cape, the couple decided to go ahead with the marriage.
Informing about their marriage to fans and followers, Charlene took to Instagram and posted a picture with Kallis. Her caption for the adorable image read: “And it’s official…Mr & Mrs Kallis!!! We are beyond excited to start our new chapter in the book of this fiery relationship! It started with a fire…now we just need to keep the fire burning in our marriage!”
She also thanked all the well-wishers who cared and congratulated them for entering the new phase of their life.
“We are completely overwhelmed with all the phone calls & messages received – THANK YOU!!! Words cannot express our gratitude! We are still trying to get through them and will respond to each message. It was truly a magical day and we are forever grateful!” the latter half of the message read.
The only cricketer on the planet to have amassed more than 10,000 runs and scalped over 200 wickets in both Test and ODI formats, Kallis is widely deemed as the greatest all-round cricketer of all time.
During the course of his 19-year-long illustrious career, Kallis accumulated 13289 Test runs at an average of 55.37 and claimed 292 Test wickets at 32 a piece. Besides, the Proteas great also proved his mettle in the shortest format as he aggregated 11579 ODI runs in 328 matches at an average of 44.36 and scalped 273 ODI wickets. In T20I cricket, Kallis represented South Africa in 25 matches in which he scored 666 runs and picked up 12 wickets.
