PICS - Sachin Tendulkar bids tearful goodbye to his ‘Sir’ Ramakant Achrekar

Dronacharya awardee and Padma Shri winner noted cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar breathed his last on Jan 2, 2019. Achrekar was known for giving Indian cricket a diamond in form of Sachin Tendulkar, the Bharat Ratna awardee champion batsman.

Achrekar’s cricket academy in Mumbai produced cricketers like Vinod Kambli, Ajit Agarkar, Balwant Singh Sandhu, Sanjay Bangar, Praveen Amre and many more, including Tendulkar. Achrekar was unwell for quite some time and passed away at the age of 86 at his Shivaji Park residence in Dadar in Central Mumbai.

Tendulkar, along with Achrekar's other wards like Vinod Kambli, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, and Chandrakant Pandit, took part in the procession to the crematorium, where his body was consigned to flames.

Mumbai cricketers such as Atul Ranade, Amol Muzumdar, Ramesh Powar, Paras Mhambrey, Ranji coach Vinayak Samant, Nilesh Kulkarni, Vinod Raghavan, were also there along with fans.
