Former South African paceman Shaun Pollock congratulated fast bowling legend Dale Steyn for surpassing his record and becoming Proteas' highest wicket-taker in the history of Test match cricket.

Steyn got his 422nd scalp at the highest level when the 35-year-old induced an edge from the bat of opener Fakhar Zaman that was later caught by fielder Dean Elgar in the slips.

It took the great man only 89 Tests to reach the pinnacle while Pollock got his 421 wickets for South Africa from 108 Tests.

This is when Pollock took to Twitter and wrote, "Well done" before leaving a wonderful message for his ex-teammate.

Steyn, who is a proven all conditions fast bowler - a sign of cricketing excellence, has now taken 422 Test wickets across 89 Tests with an astonishing average of just 22.6.

It's a record that includes most five-wicket hauls(26) as well as most ten-wicket hauls(5) for South Africa.

Steyn had actually crossed 400-wicket mark in Test cricket during the 2015 cricketing season but he had to miss a lot of games with a series of career-threatening injuries to his body.

It is his sheer determination and love for the great sport that has seen Steyn overcome all the disappointments, pain and make a roaring comeback to the game.
