November 23, 2018, marks the holy occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti and celebrates the birth of the first guru of Sikhs, Guru Nanak. This festival is one of the most revered and auspicious ones for followers of Sikhism.
Gurpurab is celebrated on the birthdays of the ten gurus of Sikhism, who was responsible for shaping the beliefs of the Sikhs. The founder of Sikhism was Guru Nanak and he was born on April 15, 1469, in Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi in the present Shekhupura District of Pakistan, now Nankana Sahib.
The Sikhs have been celebrating Guru Nanak Jayanti around November, as it is claimed that Guru Nanak was born on the Full Moon of the Indian Lunar Month Kartik. The day is a gazetted holiday in India.
The Indian cricket fraternity too went on Twitter to wish their followers and everyone else on occasion of Guru Nanak Gurpurab.
