MS Dhoni was left out from India's Twenty20 squad for the home series against the West Indies and the crucial away assignment against Australia last month, signalling a possible end to his run in the shortest format. Moreover, Dhoni’s form in ODI cricket is a huge cause of concern for Team India. In 2018, the wicketkeeper batsman is averaging 25 in the 50-over format from 19 matches.

Amidst plenty of scrutinies, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has come out in support of Dhoni, saying that he doesn't quite understand the mindset of the selectors behind such a crucial decision. He further asserted the fact that whatever decision the selectors take should be in the best interest of the nation.

Taking to Twitter, Tendulkar posted a video on Monday (November 5) wherein he said: "I don't know honestly, what the mindset of the selectors is. At no stage, I have looked to influence anyone by giving opinions because what happens in the dressing room and between captain, coach, and selectors should stay just within them."

"Whatever they are planning, whatever decisions are being taken they should be in best interest of the nation. I think that is what matters," the batting maestro added.

Here’s the video:

After India clinched the five-match ODI series against West Indies 3-1, captain Virat Kohli asserted in the post-match press conference that Dhoni is still an integral part of the team and it was his own decision to not play in the upcoming matches.

"I think the selectors have already addressed this if I'm not wrong. And he's been spoken to, firstly... So, I don't see any reason why I should be sitting here and explaining that. I think the selectors have come out and explained exactly what happened," Kohli had said.

"I was not part of that conversation so... It is what the selectors explained. I think people are putting too much variables into the situation, which is not the case I can assure you of that. He's still a very integral part of this team and he just feels that in the T20 format, someone like Rishabh can get more chances," he added.
