While wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav exemplified brilliance once again during the first T20I against West Indies at Kolkata and earned Man of the Match honours for his figures of 3/13 helping India win, it is the "new weapon" from his armoury that stood out among all the deliveries he bowled.

This one surprised even the explosive might of Keirron Pollard, as it was not his usually beautiful classical leg-spinner or the well disguised cross-seamed googly, but sort of a shooter that the great Shane Warne talks about.

He bowled it with the seam widened in his fingers and tried to land it on the leather to generate bounce and exaggerated pace, which actually took Pollard and everyone around by surprise during that 9th over of the first innings.

"That's a quick one, medium pace at 107.7km/hr. It's a new delivery," said legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who was commentating at the time, "Straight crossed-seam delivery surprising the batsman. He otherwise bowls around 75 to 80km/hr when he tosses the ball up," before former batsman Sanjay Manjrekar joined him and felt, "It was incredible that last ball. Shahid Afridi use to bowl a quick ball at about 115-120. The boy is growing into a man."

Speaking about his performance on the day, Kuldeep said afterwards, "Very important to take wickets. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. But that's my aim. The first wicket (of Bravo) was the one I cherished," and revealed an insight into his "new weapon", informing, "It's the ball I'm working on (faster one). Just bowl it to contain runs as well."

The second T20I at Lucknow takes place on November 6.
