Former India captain MS Dhoni has scored 10,173 runs in One-day Internationals. But he is still stuck at 9,999 when it comes to ODI runs for India. Dhoni has scored some runs for Asia XI as well, including a century in Afro-Asia Cup.

The 37-year-old needs only one run to reach the milestone for India but fans have to wait for a long time as men in blue will not play any ODI game this year.

Everyone was expecting Dhoni to cross the landmark in last ODI against West Indies in Kerala. But a low score of 104 by the visitors didn't let Dhoni come out to bat. It was India's top three who did the job with ease.

But fans were unhappy with skipper Virat Kohli. The reason was not sending Dhoni bat in his position, not only that, some even wanted the Indian wicket-keeper batsman to be sent as an opener for that one run. Sounds funny, but fans are that emotional for him.

India will next play the 50-over format in Australia which is set to be kick-off from January 12, 2019.

Here's how fans reacted on Twitter on seeing Dhoni remaining on 9,999 ODI runs:
