India is remembering APJ Abdul Kalam on his 87th birth anniversary today (October 15). Fondly known as the “Missile Man” of India, Kalam was the 11th and by far the most popular President of the country.

Born at Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram town, Kalam graduated in science from St. Joseph's College, Trichy in 1954 and specialised in Aeronautical Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1957.

Kalam joined the DRDO in 1958 and then associated with ISRO in 1963. In ISRO, he introduced major changes such as fibre reinforced plastics activities. For his services to the nation, Kalam was awarded civilian award of India – Bharat Ratna in 1997.

In 2002, APJ Abdul Kalam defeated Lakshmi Sahgal to become the 11th President of India. Kalam might have died on 27th July 2015, but he has been immortalized in country’s history as the ‘People’s President’.

Recalling their vivid memories of APJ Abdul Kalam, India’s current and former cricketers shared nostalgic pictures and paid heartfelt tribute to the former President.
