Recently, Indian cricket is seeing a lot of bad press when it comes to some out of contention players giving statements that there was no communication between them and the team management and/or selectors.
Players like Karun Nair and M Vijay reportedly said that they were not informed of any reasons as to why they were dropped from the side, or in Nair’s case, benched on the whole Test series against England.
Karun Nair was not played in a single Test against England and even when the time came for a batsman to be played in the fifth and final Test, Hanuma Vihari was preferred over Nair. Now he was even dropped from the two-Test series against West Indies at home, with Vihari preferred over him. M Vijay was dropped from the squad after not performing in the first two Tests.
Former Pakistani captain Rameez Raja opined on these issues and stressed that the team management and selectors must give the players the exact reason for dropping them. He also said that there should be a clear line of communication between players and management and selectors.
He also touched on the possibility that the selectors cannot have a clear word with captain Kohli and coach Shastri, given that both Kohli and Shastri are of far higher stature than any of the selectors.
